Biography

Dr Razvan Stoita is an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hip and knee conditions, with a clinical focus on joint replacement, complex revision surgery, and joint preservation. He has been in consultant practice since 2015, managing the full spectrum of hip and knee pathology — from sports injuries and ligament reconstruction in active patients, through to complex revision surgery for failed joint replacements and infected prostheses.

Dr Stoita completed his orthopaedic surgical training on the Sydney Northside Training Scheme of the Australian Orthopaedic Association, rotating through major hospitals across the Sydney network. He subsequently completed three international subspecialty fellowships in hip and knee surgery — in London, Hamburg, and Annecy, France — gaining experience across primary arthroplasty, revision surgery, knee ligament reconstruction, and advanced joint preservation techniques at major European orthopaedic centres.

He is a founding member of the Limb Reconstruction Centre at Macquarie University Hospital, where his work focuses on some of orthopaedic surgery’s most complex presentations: infected joint replacements, failed hip and knee arthroplasty, complex deformities, leg length discrepancy, and multi-ligamentous knee injuries.

In his clinical practice, Dr Stoita applies a joint-preservation philosophy wherever possible — performing osteotomies, ligament reconstructions, and meniscal repairs to restore function and delay the need for replacement. When joint replacement is indicated, he uses robotic and computer-assisted surgical techniques combined with 3D pre-operative planning to achieve accurate implant positioning and maximise longevity. He is competent in both the direct anterior and posterior approaches to hip replacement, and routinely uses computerised 3D modelling in the assessment and planning of complex cases.

Areas of Expertise

Hip & Knee Replacement (Arthroplasty)

  • Hip replacement — direct anterior approach and posterior approach
  • Total and partial (unicompartmental) knee replacement
  • Robotic-assisted and computer-navigated joint replacement
  • 3D pre-operative planning and computer modelling
  • Cementless implants with high-performance bearing surfaces

Complex Revision & Infected Joint Replacement

  • Revision surgery for failed hip and knee replacements (infection, injury, wear, loosening)
  • Infected joint replacement — in collaboration with Infectious Diseases specialists
  • Complex revision with bone deficiency and deformity

Joint Preservation Surgery

  • ACL reconstruction — quadriceps tendon graft, all-inside arthroscopic technique
  • Lateral extra-articular tenodesis (LET) augmentation — reduces ACL re-rupture rate
  • Knee realignment osteotomy with 3D-printed patient-specific guides
  • Derotation osteotomies — femur and/or tibia for malrotation-related hip and knee pain
  • Meniscal repair
  • Patellar maltracking and instability surgery

Complex Deformity & Reconstruction

  • Leg length discrepancy correction
  • Complex hip and knee deformity
  • Multi-ligamentous knee injuries
  • Bone and joint infections
